Are twins too big for recreational dives?

My club has a RIB, which means limited room for kit. There was therefore a rule that only one twinset could be put on the boat at any time, and twinsets could not be used for simple dives - just too bulky.
This obviously could have put a serious crimp in my diving, so I had to argue my case that I was not taking up more than my fair share.
From the Faber website:

Diameter of a 12L cylinder:
Diameter of a 15L cylinder:
Diameter of a 12L + pony:
Diameter of a 15L + pony:
Diameter of twin 7s:

178-203mm
203mm
278-303mm
303mm
280mm + central space

When it came to my club, I borrowed a fellow club member’s 15 + pony setup, and I was done : My 7L twinset was exactly the same width as the pony setup, and nowhere near as thick.
